Day 1 – Arrival in Reykjavík

Your journey begins in Iceland's vibrant capital, where colourful streets, coastal views, and a lively cultural scene provide the perfect introduction to the country.

After arriving at Keflavík Airport, collect your rental vehicle and drive across the Reykjanes Peninsula to Reykjavík. Depending on your arrival time, explore the city's waterfront, browse local boutiques, visit Hallgrímskirkja Church, or enjoy dinner at one of Reykjavík's many restaurants. Iceland's capital is compact and easy to explore, offering a relaxed start before venturing into the countryside. With the Atlantic Ocean on one side and distant mountains on the other, Reykjavík provides a fitting first glimpse of the landscapes that define the island.

Day 2 – Hot Springs, Waterfalls & Saga Country

Today the journey heads into West Iceland, a region where geothermal power, natural beauty, and Icelandic history come together.

Travel north into Borgarfjörður, passing through fertile farmland and broad river valleys. Along the way, visit Deildartunguhver, Europe's most powerful hot spring, where vast quantities of geothermal water emerge from deep underground. Continue to the nearby waterfalls Hraunfossar and Barnafoss, where clear glacial water flows through ancient lava fields before tumbling into a narrow canyon below. The region is also closely connected to Iceland's Saga Age and many of the country's most important historical figures. Compared to the busier South Coast, Borgarfjörður offers a quieter pace and a strong sense of place, making it an ideal introduction to rural Iceland.

Day 3 – Exploring Borgarfjörður

With a second day in West Iceland, there is time to discover the region beyond its most famous landmarks.

Spend the day exploring the landscapes and historical sites that make Borgarfjörður one of Iceland's most interesting regions. Scenic valleys, geothermal areas, lava fields, and quiet country roads invite a slower pace of travel. Depending on your interests, the day can include visits to historic locations associated with Icelandic sagas, walks through lava landscapes, or simply enjoying the peaceful countryside atmosphere. Remaining in the same area for a second night allows time to explore more deeply and appreciate a side of Iceland that many visitors pass through too quickly.

Day 4 – Discovering Snæfellsnes Peninsula

Today brings you to one of Iceland's most varied regions, where volcanic peaks, dramatic coastlines, and fishing villages combine in a remarkably compact area.

Continue west to the Snæfellsnes Peninsula, often referred to as "Iceland in Miniature" due to the diversity of landscapes found here. Travel beneath the glacier-capped Snæfellsjökull volcano and explore a coastline shaped by lava flows, sea cliffs, black beaches, and windswept headlands. Along the way, visit charming fishing villages, dramatic coastal viewpoints, and the iconic Kirkjufell mountain, one of Iceland's most photographed landmarks. The peninsula offers an ever-changing landscape, where each section of the coast reveals something entirely different.

Day 5 – Along the Snæfellsnes Coast & South to the Golden Circle

The journey turns south today, connecting the rugged beauty of West Iceland with the historic landscapes of the interior.

Spend the morning exploring any remaining highlights of Snæfellsnes before continuing south towards the Golden Circle region. The route passes through changing landscapes of lava fields, mountain ranges, and open farmland, showcasing yet another side of Iceland's remarkable diversity. Rather than rushing between destinations, today's drive is about enjoying the journey itself, with opportunities to stop at scenic viewpoints and lesser-known locations along the way. By evening, arrive in the countryside surrounding the Golden Circle, perfectly positioned for exploring some of Iceland's most famous landmarks the following day.
