Tour Itinerary
Day 1 – Arrival in Reykjavík
Your Iceland journey begins as you arrive on the edge of the North Atlantic, where volcanic landscapes, coastal views, and the relaxed atmosphere of Reykjavík offer a gentle introduction to the country.
After landing at Keflavík Airport, collect your rental vehicle and drive across the Reykjanes Peninsula towards Reykjavík. The route passes through vast lava fields shaped by centuries of volcanic activity, providing a first glimpse of Iceland's unique landscape. Depending on your arrival time, take the opportunity to explore the capital's colourful streets, waterfront, and lively café culture, or simply unwind after your flight. Reykjavík's compact size makes it easy to enjoy a relaxed first evening before heading into the countryside the following day.
Optional Activities
- Sky Lagoon
- Blue Lagoon
- Reykjavík Food Walk
- Whale Watching from Reykjavík
Day 2 – The Wonders of the Golden Circle
Today the journey leaves the city behind and heads into the landscapes that have shaped Iceland's history, geology, and identity.
Travel inland to explore the Golden Circle, Iceland's most famous sightseeing route. Begin at Þingvellir National Park, where Iceland's first parliament was established and the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates slowly drift apart. Continue to the Geysir geothermal area, where hot springs bubble beneath the surface and Strokkur regularly sends water high into the air. Nearby, Gullfoss waterfall crashes into a dramatic canyon, creating one of the country's most iconic natural scenes. The route then continues through peaceful countryside towards your accommodation in South Iceland, where open farmland and distant glaciers begin to dominate the landscape.
Optional Activities
- Secret Lagoon
- Laugarvatn Fontana
- Friðheimar Greenhouse Experience
- Snowmobiling on Langjökull Glacier
- Horseback Riding
- Laugarás Lagoon
Day 3 – Waterfalls & Black Sand Beaches
The South Coast unfolds today in a spectacular sequence of waterfalls, sea cliffs, glaciers, and volcanic shorelines.
Continue east along one of Iceland's most scenic routes. Stop at Seljalandsfoss, where a path leads behind the cascading water, before visiting nearby Skógafoss, one of Iceland's largest and most impressive waterfalls. As the journey continues, the coastline becomes increasingly dramatic, with views of glaciers rising above black sands and rugged cliffs. Around Vík, explore Reynisfjara's famous black sand beach and striking basalt columns, while nearby Dyrhólaey offers sweeping views of the coastline and offshore sea stacks. Throughout the day, the ever-changing scenery highlights the powerful forces that continue to shape Iceland's southern shores.
Optional Activities
- Glacier Walk on Sólheimajökull
- Snowmobile Tour
- Lava Show in Vík
- ATV Beach Tour
- Zipline Adventure
Day 4 – Beneath Vatnajökull Glacier
Today brings you into the shadow of Europe's largest glacier, where ice, volcanic landscapes, and glacial rivers define the scenery.
Travel further east towards Vatnajökull National Park, passing vast lava fields and glacier-fed plains along the way. Stop in Skaftafell, a beautiful area of mountains, glaciers, and walking trails nestled beneath the ice cap. Continuing east, arrive at Jökulsárlón Glacier Lagoon, where floating icebergs drift slowly towards the ocean before washing ashore on the nearby black sands of Diamond Beach. This region offers some of Iceland's most memorable landscapes and provides an impressive contrast to the waterfalls and coastlines explored earlier in the journey.
Optional Activities
- Zodiac Boat Tour on Jökulsárlón
- Amphibian Boat Tour on Jökulsárlón
- Glacier Walk in Skaftafell
- Ice Climbing
- Ice Cave Tour (Winter)
Day 5 – A Final Day Along the South Coast
With the major highlights explored, today allows time to slow down and enjoy the journey at your own pace.
Begin the drive back towards Reykjavík, retracing the coastline while enjoying a more relaxed schedule. This flexible day provides opportunities to revisit favourite locations, explore lesser-known viewpoints, or spend additional time in areas that deserve a closer look. The return journey offers a different perspective on the landscapes travelled earlier, with changing light and weather often revealing new details. Whether stopping at quiet coastal viewpoints, local villages, or hidden corners of the South Coast, the day reinforces that some of Iceland's best experiences are often found away from a fixed schedule.
Day 6 – Departure
Your South Coast adventure comes to an end as you make your way back to Keflavík Airport.
Depending on your flight schedule, you may have time for a final walk through Reykjavík, a leisurely breakfast, or a stop on the Reykjanes Peninsula before heading to the airport. Return your rental vehicle and prepare for your journey home, taking with you memories of waterfalls, glaciers, black sand beaches, and the dramatic landscapes that make Iceland such a remarkable destination.
Optional Activities
- Blue Lagoon
- Sky Lagoon
Return to Keflavík Airport for your departure, or extend your stay with additional nights in Reykjavík or nearby regions.
